Professional Profile – Prof. Jean Claude Mbonicura
Jean Claude Mbonicura, MMed, General and Digestive Surgeon, completed his specialization training (DES) in General Surgery. He previously served as Acting Intern at Amiens University Hospitals during his DFMS in Visceral Surgery.

Since July 2023, he has been Associate Professor of General Surgery, and since February 2023, Director of Care at Kamenge University Hospital (CHU). He is also a Teaching Researcher at the University of Burundi / Faculty of Medicine, and Head of the DES in Visceral Surgery.

Prof. Mbonicura is the author of several publications in the field of general and digestive surgery (University of Burundi website). His work is indexed on Google Scholar and ResearchGate.

He is a Fellow of General Surgery in the COSECSA region and serves as a trainer in General Surgery on the regional teaching platform. He is also part of the examiner pool of COSECSA in his area of specialization.

Prof. Mbonicura has strong skills in digital pedagogy, having completed numerous trainings in e-learning both in-person and online. He delivers most of his DES courses in Visceral Surgery online for residents. He has participated in online training on the Reference/SPT for surgical and obstetric emergencies for nurses working within the Enabel framework. He has also taken part in Moodle training for faculty members of the University of Burundi in previous cohorts.

He actively contributes to the Faculty of Medicine in the development of academic and institutional projects.
