The Institute of Applied Statistics/ Presentation
1. The University of Burundi
The University of Burundi is a public institution, of an administrative nature, born in 1964, and which is currently governed, in addition to the legal texts organizing higher education in general, by Decree No. 279 of October 18, 2012 reorganizing the University of Burundi. It benefits from state subsidies for its operation.

    The motto “icivugo”: “Kaminuza y’Uburundi: Rumuri rumurikira Abarundi”.
    Missions: teaching; do research ; provide services to the community.
    The vision: Within 5 years, the UB will be a reference for the quality of teaching, research and influence within the national and sub-regional community (Cf. Art. 38 of Law No. 1/22 of 11/30/2011).

Training offers at UB
The University of Burundi currently operates according to the Baccalaureate-Master-Doctorate (BMD) system. From the 2017-2018 academic year, around fifteen master's programs have started in several Faculties and Institutes of the University of Burundi while a Doctoral School was officially opened in July 2017.
2. The Institute of Applied Statistics

ISTA is a higher education institute created by Ministerial Order No. 610/966 of June 28, 2017 relating to

Creation, Organization and operation of the Institute of Applied Statistics at the University of Burundi.
This Institute's vision is: "ISTA, a reference for the quality of teaching in applied statistics, applied research in the fields of statistics and its applications and influence within the national, sub-regional and international community".

The main missions of ISTA are:

    Ensure the academic training of students and on-the-job training of staff of the national statistical system “SSN” of Burundi;
    Promote specialized training for the development of the SSN Burundi;
    Contribute to the development of applied research in areas falling within its competence.

As part of ISTA's influence, a partnership agreement was signed with the Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies of Burundi (ISTEEBU) and the University of Burundi on October 27, 2017. Through this partnership , ISTEEBU undertakes to:

    Support the University of Burundi in the development of academic training programs for Statisticians;
    Participate in the mobilization of funds for the operationalization and outreach of ISTA;
    Support and facilitate ISTA students during tutorials and their research in general;
    Ensure, through its staff members, the supervision of interns from the University of Burundi;
    Support the University of Burundi in the training of statisticians;
    Participate in conferences and other scientific events organized by the University of Burundi to promote scientific research in statistics;
    Facilitate, as far as possible, the professional integration of ISTA graduates based on the National Statistics System and the resources available;
    Make all publications on national statistics available to the University of Burundi.

Other agreements have already been signed, notably with the Moeglin Training Institute in France as well as a tripartite agreement between ENSEA of Côte d'Ivoire, ISTEEBU and the University of Burundi which is currently being developed and will be signed shortly.
